Since 2020, our volunteer <strong>Direct Giving<\/strong> group has responded to about 120 requests for aid. We help in one or more of these ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>offer <strong>information<\/strong> on local resources that may help with specific needs,<\/li><li><strong>referral<\/strong> to community groups and agencies that offer assistance,<\/li><li><s style=\"color:#d0d0d0;\">give <strong>cash<\/strong> from Montclair Mutual Aid donors, or do a <strong>crowdfunding<\/strong> campaign on social media directly for individual recipients,<\/s> <em style=\"color:#808080;\">(on <strong>pause<\/strong> as of September 2022, while we raise more funds within the Montclair area community)<\/em>,<\/li><li><strong>publicize<\/strong> and promote individuals&#8217; existing crowdfunding campaigns in social media.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Examples of the urgent needs for which we&#8217;ve directed cash include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>rent for mother and children leaving a domestic violence situation,<\/li><li>debris clearing for senior with home wind damage,<\/li><li>childcare for single mom to allow work hours,<\/li><li>car repairs for single dad,<\/li><li>security deposit for new apartment after hurricane flood,<\/li><li>rent for person with disability who lost job during illness,<\/li><li>bills for student who lost financial aid during Covid absence,<\/li><li>cremation for deceased relative,<\/li><li>prenatal medications and care for pregnant mom,<\/li><li>motel room for evicted parent and child.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cash recipents must be local, in Montclair or neighboring towns; we meet briefly in person with each cash recipient.
